Bus fleet No. 3 of the St. Petersburg “Passenger Avtotrans” began restoring the Karosa ŠM11 model. This was a two-axle bus that offered air suspension and a lower floor level. From 1961 to 1981, about 10 thousand of these machines were made, of which several units were purchased by Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport at the turn of 1960-1970.
It is known that the platform buses written off from Moscow were then distributed between the airports of Stavropol and Mineralnye Vody. In the capital of the Stavropol year, one car was then used for a long time instead of a change house.
Now the restoration of the “Karosa” built in 1971 is being carried out by St. Petersburg restorers, who received an “empty” body without an engine, transmission and many other units.
As Motor magazine learned, experts note that the frame is well preserved: in particular, the original floor has even been preserved in the cabin, which is a rarity for old passenger vehicles.
It is curious that the Karosa ŠM11 model appeared in the Soviet film “The Incredible Adventures of Italians in Russia,” where part of the plot takes place at Sheremetyevo Airport.
