A large-scale review of Polestar 2 was declared due to a serious defect

Polestar, which belongs to Volvo Cars and Geely Holding and produces electric cars since 2017, has discovered a malfunction from a model with index 2. Because of a software failure on machines sold in the United States until 2025, the rear view camera can be refused, which, in turn, seriously increases the risk of an accident. The response campaign affects 27,816 copies of Polestar 2 – they will be checked and, if necessary, they will be repaired for free for the owners.

Some Polestar models due to the design features have no rear window (for example, in Polestar 4 and 5), so drivers have to focus only on the image from the rear chamber. Polestar 2, which fell under the review, has the rear window, so the motorists will not remain completely without review. But the back camera will fail and “blind” – in this case, a notification appears on the dashboard that the picture from it is temporarily inaccessible. The repair campaign covers electric cars sold in the United States from 2021 to 2024 inclusive – only about three tens of thousands.

The automaker himself claims that the malfunction is associated with the error of synchronization of the assistance camera in parking (PAC) and the information and entertainment system. For the same reason, in the summer of 2024, the review of 26 thousand copies of the Polestar 2 was carried out. Then the software was updated on electric cars, but this, apparently, did not solve the problem.

Polestar has been faced with program failures for several years. So, for example, back in 2020, several dozen buyers from Sweden, Norway, France and the Netherlands complained that after several hundred kilometers of mileage (and sometimes on the second day of operation), the Polestar 2 electric car system notifies about failure, after which it ceases to respond to commands. The case ends with the delivery of a car on a tow truck to the nearest service center. As a result, the car manufacturer had to withdraw all the Polestar 2 copies sold by that time.
