A record number of new cars were sold in Russia in 2024

Last year, 48.4 percent more new cars were sold than in 2023, and this is also the best result since 2019 (1.59 million cars), according to the Autostat report. Two thirds of all cars sold were from five brands: Lada holds the lead, followed by four Chinese brands, Haval, Chery, Geely and Changan.

In total, in 2024, Russians bought 1,571,272 new passenger cars. There are 436,155 of them – Lada, which occupies more than a quarter of the Russian car market (27.7%), sales of the Russian brand increased by 34.4 percent over the year. Haval was in second place in terms of sales volumes with 190,624 cars (+70.6%, its share is 12.13%). The Chery brand finished last year in third place, its result was 157,040 cars sold (an increase of 32%, and a share of 9.99%).

Geely and Changan also made it into the top 5. Geely dealers sold 149,118 cars during the year, which is 59.4 percent more than in 2023, and the brand’s share is 9.49 percent. Changan finished 2024 in fifth place, selling 106,105 cars (+122.1%; share – 6.75%).

In the ranking by model, the Lada Granta took first place – more than two hundred thousand Russians chose this model (201,491 copies were sold). Next comes Lada Vesta (123,170 units), and Haval Jolion (83,828 units) closes the top three by a wide margin. The latter is also the most popular crossover of 2024 and the most sought-after foreign car.

Further positions were distributed as follows: in fourth and fifth places are two Chery models, Tiggo 7 Pro Max and Tiggo 4 Pro, in sixth – Lada Niva Travel, in seventh – Geely Monjaro, in eighth – Lada Niva Legend, in ninth – Omoda C5, and the Haval M6 closes the rating. At the end of the year, production of the latter was transferred from the Tula Haval plant to the facilities of the former PSMA Rus enterprise in the Kaluga region.

Statistics on sales of new cars in December are also provided. In the last month of 2024, dealers sold 123,431 new passenger cars, which is 3.3 percent more than in December 2023. Compared to November 2024, the market grew by only 1.3 percent.
