An egg-shaped Fiat 600D with three headlights will go under the hammer in the USA

The unique Pininfarina Y Berlinetta concept, created in the 1960s based on the Fiat 600D subcompact car and nicknamed the “Egg” for its shape, is up for auction at Bonhams, Carscoops reports.

The lot is expected to fetch between $100,000 and $200,000. This one-of-a-kind example has been housed at the National Automobile Museum in Reno, Nevada since its release and has just 4,991 miles on the odometer.

The car body, designed by Pininfarina, has a streamlined ovoid shape, which has significantly improved aerodynamics. At the front there are three round headlights in a transparent housing and three chrome elements on the bumper. The spare wheel was placed in the front trunk. The interior has a Nardi steering wheel.

Under the hood is a standard 767 cc four-cylinder engine producing 32 hp, mated to a four-speed manual transmission. The regular Fiat 600D topped out at 68 mph (110 km/h), while the Pininfarina Egg topped out at 79.5 mph (128 km/h) during testing, thanks entirely to its more streamlined body.
