An investigation has been carried out: the owner of Xiaomi did not survive due to hidden door handles

On October 13, 2025, a Xiaomi car driven by a drunk driver collided with another car on an expressway in the city of Chengdu, after which it drove into the oncoming lane, where it caught fire. A forensic examination carried out by the local Transport Accident Assessment Center revealed important details of the accident.

Three seconds before the collision, the car was traveling at approximately 203 km/h, slowing to 167 km/h when it hit the car in front and to 138 km/h when it hit the median barrier.

“The doors could not be opened from the outside because the collision cut off the power to the low-voltage system, which disabled the door handle unlocking function,” Chinese media quoted an expert report as saying.

The car had emergency opening mechanisms, but they are located in such a way that a person has to fully extend his arm through the window, but to break the glass, you need to have a heavy object at hand.

Meanwhile, in China, auto companies have been banned from equipping their electric vehicles with hidden door handles. The decision was prompted precisely by issues of passive safety.
