Audi has quietly withdrawn its flagship A8 sedan from the market

In particular, Motor1 noticed that the Audi A8 disappeared from the configurator on the official Audi website in Germany. Acceptance of orders for the car ended on February 18, this was confirmed by Audi itself.

Audi spokesperson Marcel Bestle spoke with Motor1 to explain that the model’s availability in global markets now depends solely on dealer stock availability. The company does not name the exact date of production cessation, but the very fact of stopping orders in the brand’s homeland suggests that the current generation of the sedan is reaching its last months.

The current A8 has been produced since 2017, and sales of its restyled version began at the end of 2021. Compared to its main competitors, it looks outdated: the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W223) recently received a major update, and the appearance of the new BMW 7 Series is also expected.

Despite the pessimistic news, it is too early to talk about the final closure of the line. An Audi spokesperson hinted that the company would provide more information about a “possible successor” at a later date. The key word here is “possibly,” since the final decision on the fate of the fifth-generation model has not yet been made.

According to Chinese automobile publications, citing informed sources, the development of a new generation has yet started. The car is expected to debut in 2029 and go on sale in 2030. According to unofficial information, the new A8 will share the MSB platform with the next generation Porsche Panamera, while retaining the internal combustion engine and plug-in hybrid versions. It was previously assumed that Audi’s flagship would switch entirely to electric power.
