Auto culture presented a documentary about the rally of the 1990s

Within the framework of the Auto Culture project, the documentary film “Race of the Age of Changes” about the Russian rally of the 1990s was released. The premiere was held in Moscow, in the Cinema October. Showers are also planned in St. Petersburg, Krasnodar, Yekaterinburg, Surgut, Tyumen, Novosibirsk and Kaliningrad. The film was directed by Igor Asanov, known for documentary work on automobile and motorships.

In 1990, radio athletes brought to the USSR several of the latest foreign cars at once. From this moment, madness begins in sports. Exclusive and expensive “BMW”, “Subaru”, “Lianchi” and “Toyota”, bought for the money sometimes dubious sponsors, rush along the Russian outback, grabbing the views of all the boys.

By the end of the decade in Russia, several of the latest cars from the World Cup fought for the title at once: they could be seen both in the deaf Karelian village and on Red Square, as well as at the main building of Moscow State University in Moscow. This became possible thanks to huge oil, gas and tobacco money that spun in sports at that time. However, far from all participants, this era of large budgets ended well.

The heroes of the film were ex-champions of Russia in rally Sergey Uspensky and Vyacheslav Prokhorov, representative of Prodrive Kirill Kipiani and chief mechanic Konstantin Potekhin. The storyteller was the historian and journalist Alexei Sergeev. The film contains not only memories, chronicles and historical photos. In order to convey the spirit of the era as much as possible, several rarest cars were found and shot at once for filming, which shone on the rally routes of the 90s. The brief story of these machines will allow the viewer to plunge into the context and understand what the rally foreign cars brought to Russia were so valuable to Russia.
