Auto expert Kolodochkin: gasoline can be kept in a canister for no more than a year

How long can you keep gasoline in a canister in reserve so that it does not turn into a “tear”? It turns out that even fuel has its own expiration date, and, according to official standards, it is very limited, Gazeta.Ru reports, citing Mikhail Kolodochkin, an expert from Za Rulem magazine.

“According to GOST, the guaranteed shelf life of gasoline of any brand is one year from the date of manufacture. In reality, it can be stored for two or three years, but its properties deteriorate over time: gasoline contains volatile fractions that evaporate. The safety of gasoline depends to a greater extent on the tightness of the canister than on its volume,” Kolodochkin explained to the publication.

In practice, of course, gasoline can “last” longer, the expert clarified, but over time, light fractions evaporate from it, and condensation also forms in the container due to temperature changes. The evaporation process will be more intense if the canister is not sealed, he pointed out.

Earlier, a powerful fire was captured on video that engulfed the largest clothing market in Moscow, Sadovod.
