Auto expert Tselikov: Chery will not be able to replace Tenet if the plant in Kaluga stops

If the former Volkswagen plant goes down as a result of a fire, Chery will not be able to replace the volumes of Tenet brand cars assembled there with its products. This opinion was expressed in a conversation with Motor by the general director of the analytical agency Autostat, Sergei Tselikov.

“The Chery concern plans production for a long period of time, so the lost volumes, in the event of a complete shutdown of the plant, cannot be quickly restored. At the same time, it will not be possible to replace Tenet cars with similar Chery models, because the Chinese concern has long switched to selling the Russian brand,” Tselikov explained to Motor magazine.

The expert found it difficult to estimate the number of Tenet cars produced by the plant in Kaluga that are in the warehouses of the automaker and dealers, but noted that such stocks are usually enough for two months of sales.

The Kaluga plant AGR Automotive (a former Volkswagen plant) has been producing Tenet crossovers since 2025. A severe fire at the enterprise occurred on January 28, 2026. Gazeta.Ru wrote more about this.

Earlier it became known that there was a strong fire at the former Volkswagen plant in Kaluga.
