Auto expert Zinoviev listed 8 serious shortcomings of the Toyota Sienta minivan

Mostly, car owners complain about problems with the engine, lack of sound insulation and low ground clearance.

The main engine is a petrol 1.5-liter 1NZ-FE. It produces 109 hp. on front-wheel drive versions and 103 hp. on all-wheel drive. In general, the unit is known for a resource of about 300 thousand kilometers, but there is an important “but”: due to the thin walls between the cylinders, a full overhaul is not provided for it.

In addition, after 100 thousand kilometers, oil often begins to burn out due to coking of the piston rings. The Russian AI-92 also contributes to this, although the motor with hydraulic compensators is designed for the AI-95. By 150 thousand kilometers, oil seal leaks may appear (primarily the crankshaft rear oil seal) and timing drive wear, said Sergei Zinoviev.

The gearboxes are variators of the K310 series, which by the time they appeared on Sienta had already cured “childhood diseases”. They last up to 200–300 thousand kilometers. A manual transmission is rare; such cars were not officially supplied to Russia.

Up to 100 thousand kilometers, the suspension, steering and brakes usually do not cause problems. There is practically no sound insulation, ground clearance is approximately 130 mm.

Seasonal problems include freezing of sliding doors due to temperature changes. But the rated consumption of 4–5 l/100 km is unattainable in practice, although 6–7 liters is a very realistic and comfortable figure for all versions.
