Continental at the CES consumer electronics show in Las Vegas showed a new type of screen for the E-Ink Prism media system, stretched from rack to rack. It uses ink similar to that used in e-readers. This display has wide customization options and also saves energy. However, there is an obvious drawback – the screen is black and white.
The Continental concept at CES was equipped with a display 1.3 meters long and four centimeters high. Full-width screens are not new, but this is the first time electronic ink has been used as a core technology.

Continental has prepared a selection of ornamental backgrounds that can be selected to personalize the interior design. The black-and-white gamma, according to company representatives, is not a minus, but a plus: it makes the screen unusually minimalistic compared to its colorful counterparts.

There are other benefits that should appeal to electric car drivers. E-Ink screens consume energy for a short period of time – while changing from one image to another. The rest of the time they can display a visible picture without wasting electricity. In addition, E-Ink reflects light like paper: that is, they do not need to be additionally illuminated from the inside, which also saves battery.
Last year BMW experimented with electronic ink. The Bavarians turned the i5 into an art car, painted by South African artist Esther Mahlangu. The body was covered with panels with electronic ink, and colored ones, the patterns on which can be changed using current pulses.
