AutoSpetsCenter warned about the risk of engine failure due to poplar fluff

During the period of active flowering of poplars (late May – June), car owners should be especially careful: poplar fluff can seriously damage the car, including failure of the engine and air conditioner. Igor Serebryakov, director of the after-sales service department of the AutoSpetsCenter Group of Companies, reported this to Gazeta.Ru.

The main problem, according to the expert, is clogging of the radiators of the engine cooling system and air conditioning, as well as contamination of the air filter and ventilation ducts. Once in the engine compartment, the fluff mixes with dust and oil fumes, forming a dense felt-like layer. This disrupts the thermal regime of the engine and increases the risk of overheating, especially in traffic jams.

The air conditioner radiator is the most vulnerable: due to fluff, the cooling efficiency drops sharply, which over time can lead to breakdown of the air conditioning compressor. To avoid problems, Serebryakov advises cleaning radiators weekly with compressed air or low-pressure water during the flowering season, and replacing the air filter after dusting has stopped.

He also recommends installing a protective mesh on the front bumper – this is cost-effective and prevents large pieces of fluff from getting into the engine compartment. It is strictly forbidden to use open fire or flammable liquids to remove lint.
