In January 2026, 8.1 thousand Lada Niva Legend found new owners on the Russian secondary market – 4% more than a year ago. The model became the best-selling used Lada model, overtaking the “sevens” and “fourteenths,” reports the analytical agency “Avtostat”.
The first reason why Russians began to buy Lada Niva Legend on the secondary market is the snow apocalypse. Utility workers, as always, did not have time to remove the snow, and many roads turned into a snow-covered kingdom. In such a situation, even the most budget-friendly, but real SUV with permanent all-wheel drive and energy-intensive suspension becomes not a luxury, but a means of survival, especially in regions with poor infrastructure.
The second reason is Trade-in. В конце 2025 года на рынок вышла обновленная Niva Travel. Owners of classic Nivas flocked to dealers to trade in their “veterans” for the purchase of a new car. This created an additional supply on the secondary market and fueled interest in the model as a whole.

As experts note, Niva buyers are captivated by its legendary maintainability and availability of spare parts. A manual transmission, permanent all-wheel drive and a suspension that you don’t mind – for many this is not an archaism, but a conscious choice.
The policy of the automaker itself also had an impact. A temporary reduction in support programs and preferential lending for new AvtoVAZ cars made them less accessible, shifting the public’s attention to the secondary market. And then Niva was again in the right place at the right time.
