Ford CEO Jim Farley’s DeTomaso Pantera sports car put up for auction in the USA

This Italian-American supercar has an unusual history that began long before Farley became its owner, reports Bring a Trailer.

The 1972 DeTomaso Pantera sports car, combining Italian design and an American 5.8 L Ford V8 engine, was purchased new and delivered to Ford Aerospace (the company was not only involved in cars). There, the Pantera was used as a company car for employees.

During its two years of corporate life, the car went through several owners and then spent 18 years in the Yankee Candle Company Museum. In 2018, the Pantera was first offered at auction, repainted in factory yellow, but was involved in an accident during a test drive by a potential buyer. The right door and rear were damaged. The damage was subsequently repaired.

Jim Farley purchased this example at the same auction in June 2024 for $121,000. During his ownership, the engine and ZF 5-speed manual transmission were serviced, an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, new audio system and steering wheel were installed. The 15-inch Campagnolo magnesium wheels have been repainted bronze. At the moment the odometer shows about 55 thousand kilometers.

At the time of publication of the news, the bid at the auction had already reached $127 thousand, while several days remained before its completion.
