Autostat: only every 15th Russian switched to a Chinese car

There has been no mass distribution of Chinese cars in Russia, despite their expansion over the past four years. Russians still prefer domestic, Japanese, Korean and European cars. Statistics show this.

The general director of the analytical agency Autostat, Sergei Tselikov, said that out of 47.5 million passenger cars registered in Russia at the beginning of 2026, only a little more than 3 million belong to Chinese brands. This is 6.6% of the total fleet volume.

The largest share belongs to domestic cars: with a fleet of these cars of 13.8 million units, it turns out that every third Russian drives them (more than 29%). Japanese cars are in second place in terms of prevalence in Russia: they account for 11.4 million units.

They are followed by cars of Korean (6.27 million units), German (4.87 million) and American (3.22 million) brands. Chinese brands are only in sixth place, with a fleet of 3.15 million units. French brands are not far behind them: in Russia at the beginning of the year there were 2.74 million French cars.
