AvtoVAZ issued a patent for an industrial design of a car through the Federal Institute of Industrial Property (FIPS). The authors of the project are Stepan Suslaev, Yana Ilyina, Yaroslav Zhitlov, Olga Denisova and Ezhen Ackermann. Suslaev and Akkerman, according to the FIPS database, also worked on the image of the Lada Azimut crossover.
In 2021, Jean-Philippe Salard, who then held the post of Lada design director, demonstrated a full-size mockup of a promising SUV.
The car was covered with fabric, but one could see the angular front part, the massive bumper and some other design nuances.
In January 2025, a car similar in style was shown to Russian President Vladimir Putin during the head of state’s visit to AvtoVAZ. Then it became known that the model was called T-134.
The industrial design of the car, the intellectual rights to which have now been issued by AvtoVAZ, is confusingly reminiscent of the T-134 project.
In some elements – the shape of the optics, the overall silhouette and even the ventilation grilles on the rear pillars – the new product is similar to the classic VAZ-2121 Niva.
