AvtoVAZ: Lada engine life is 220 thousand kilometers

“At the development stage of new projects, a resource of at least 220,000 km is laid down. Today this is the minimum design bar, and whether it will be higher in reality depends on a number of factors: temperature operating conditions, quality of fuels and lubricants, timeliness and correctness of maintenance, engine operating mode. There are many known cases when a Lada engine traveled 300,000 km or more without major repairs,” AvtoVAZ reported.

The strength and durability of the engine primarily depend on the correct choice of materials with the required characteristics, as well as on maintaining optimal clearances between parts. Important factors are also reducing the mass of moving parts, reducing inertial forces, as well as minimizing friction and wear, the company noted.

Finally, production technology plays a key role. Modern Lada engines are assembled using selective assembly technology. Automated systems accurately measure the dimensions of cylinder blocks, pistons, camshafts and crankshafts. On the assembly line, parts are purposefully arranged in such a way that all working gaps and interfaces correspond to a strictly specified range, AvtoVAZ explained.
