The second reason is the complex design of turbo engines and their exactingness to the quality of the service and spare parts. In addition, you can’t just make a turbo engine from the “atmospheric”: engineering experience shows that you need to completely “shove” the base engine, change materials, lubricant, cooling and ventilation. The cost of the turbo engine is at least 50% higher than that of the “atmospheric”, and they do not see a massive request for such units at AvtoVAZ.

Also, under the turbo engine, you need an appropriate car. Under the increased power, it is necessary to seriously finalize the design: gearbox, suspension, brakes, cooling system. As a result, a turbocharged car will be more expensive. Now there is no suitable model in the LADA line. The situation of the first generation of “atmospheric” 1.8 is repeated: for “Priora” and “Kalina” from “big”, and for Lada Vesta came to the court.
The engine with a capacity of 145 horsepower from Lada Vesta Sport for mass cars has not been created: it is produced piece and for the family sedan “will be alien”. The high-cost unit hopes to return to the conveyor this year, replacing the French 5-speed “mechanics” with a Chinese 6-speed transmission. And on ordinary AvtoVAZ models, modernized “six” will appear.
