AvtoVAZ surprised with the life cycle of the newest Lada Iskra

Tolyatti blogger and former employee of the Volzhsky Automobile Plant KhaDm shared a slide from the presentation, which provides interesting details of the XJO project. The Lada Iskra’s life cycle is currently expected to be eight years; in the model line, the new product will replace XRay/XRay Cross and simple versions of Vesta NG. In addition to Russia, they plan to sell the family in the CIS countries and Egypt.

The eight-year life cycle of the Lada Iskra is a bold forecast, because in the current AvtoVAZ lineup all models are older than eight years. Lada Granta has been produced since 2011, Vesta – since 2015, Largus – since 2012 (in the form of Dacia/Renault – since 2006), and both Nivas are considered long-lived by the standards of the global automobile industry. Another interesting detail is the lack of mention of Iskra in the context of the Granta replacement.

According to the slide, the average annual production volume of Lada Iskra is 132 thousand units, although in the first year they intend to produce only 120 thousand cars. The length of the sedan and station wagon will be the same, and the difference in height will be a few centimeters. In the Lada Iskra design, the share of completely new parts will be 40%, another nine percent of components from other models will have to be modified – among them the front and rear suspension components.

From the schematic sketch we can conclude that the adaptation and import substitution of the CMF-B-LS platform led to unification with Vesta and Granta. However, the cars will also have fundamental differences: in particular, the Lada Iskra will be missing some status options.
