AvtoVAZ will begin production of the updated Niva Legend with a galvanized body on July 20

According to the press service of the enterprise, production of the car will start on the day of the 60th anniversary of the concern.

The premiere of the deeply modernized classic Niva took place on June 3 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). The car received more than 100 new and over 60 modernized parts and assemblies.

The main technical innovation is the 1.8-liter eight-valve engine, which is already familiar from the Niva Travel model. Maximum torque has increased by 24 Nm, with 80% of its value available from 1000 rpm. The engine has become not only more powerful, but also more economical: specific fuel consumption has decreased by 3-30% depending on the operating mode.

For the first time, the SUV received body parts made of double-sided galvanized steel, which should increase corrosion resistance. Also, for the first time in the history of the model, the Niva Legend featured a driver’s front airbag.

Other changes include the ignition switch moved to the right side, ventilated front brake discs and an upgraded front suspension. The anti-roll bar has been moved forward, which the company says improves handling and ride quality.
