Baza: prices for BMW and Mercedes may rise by 40% due to new recycling rules

Cars from German brands have risen noticeably in price since the end of last year, and with the introduction of a new recycling fee, dealers predict an increase in prices by another third.

“On April 1, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will equate private import of cars from the EAEU with commercial import, and Russians will no longer be able to save due to the low duties of these countries. Let’s compare price changes using the example of the BMW X5 in the M package: the December delivery can still be found for 15.8 million rubles, the January batch has risen in price to 17.1 million rubles, and after April 1 the final price will exceed 20.7 million rubles,” the publication says.

Russian auto brokers have found a way to save money on increasingly expensive German cars: import long-wheelbase versions from China for the local market, which are cheaper. For example, a BMW X5 can now be purchased for 10.5 million rubles, but after April 1, import through Russia will cost 14 million, and through Belarus – 12.5 million rubles.

For Mercedes, the situation is more complicated: the C-Class is actually leaving the market, since its price is almost equal to the E-Class, which makes import unprofitable. This year the bet will be on the E 300 (currently 9.5-10.5 million rubles). To avoid the April price increase, dealers advise bringing cars from China.

Earlier it was revealed how much the all-wheel drive version of the Jaecoo J6 costs.
