"Behind the wheel" criticized Land Rover Discovery Sport for capricious engines

Experts from the magazine “Behind the Wheel” analyzed typical faults and weaknesses of the Land Rover Discovery Sport crossover, which is sold on the secondary market from 2 million rubles. Despite the strong suspension and rust-free body, the model has many serious shortcomings.

The main disadvantage is expensive maintenance. Discovery Sport, according to the publication, is very expensive to maintain and repair. At the same time, its sound insulation is only mediocre, and the interior materials are heterogeneous – high-quality ones coexist with hard plastic, which irritates with extraneous sounds.

Most cars on the market have diesel engines. The best and most resourceful is the old 2.2 (150 hp) developed by Peugeot, but it was installed only until 2016. The 2.0 Ingenium series engines (150-240 hp) that replaced it suffer from rapid wear of the balance shaft and timing chain, oil dilution by fuel (due to the particulate filter) and abrasive entering the cylinders through the EGR valve, which leads to mechanical damage.

Gasoline engines are no better: the early 2.0 Ecoboost is known for the destruction of the intake pipe, burnout of the pistons due to detonation and oil leakage. The 2.0 Ingenium that replaced it has a weak timing drive, unreliable phase regulators and an oil pump. The service life of all engines, except the 2.2 diesel, is about 250 thousand km.

The nine-speed automatic ZF 9HP48 does not tolerate peak loads, causing overheating and accelerated wear of the mechatronics. The heat exchanger quickly becomes clogged. In general, the unit can withstand about 200 thousand km, after which a rebuild is required with the replacement of bushings, gaskets and clutches.

The most common electronic device that suffers is external cameras. There are many complaints about the inconvenient media system with simple graphics. Fogging of the rear lights and failure of the Webasto pre-heater are also common. During the warranty period, the radiator, wipers, turbocharger and steering rack failed among different owners.
