Delays in deliveries of new cars threaten both buyers with exclusive options and those who ordered standard configurations of BMW electric SUVs: instead of summer, the cars may arrive only in the fall. Carscoops reports this.
Delays in deliveries of the BMW iX1 model have been recorded in the European market. According to available data, the cause was disruptions in the production process due to a shortage of 17- and 18-inch rims provided as standard.
The BMW production manager, in a letter to dealers, which was reviewed by Automobilwoche, said that there will be enough stocks of wheels for production in May, but there will be a capacity shortage in June. The company has contacted the supplier, but the manager said it will take time to fix the problem.
The problem did not affect exclusive models with carbon wheels, but mass-produced versions of the BMW iX1. We are talking about relatively inexpensive 17‑ and 18‑inch wheels – they are often chosen because of their affordable price, better ride comfort and, which is especially important for an electric vehicle, increased electric range.
