BMW starts sales of four -cylinder M2, but there is a nuance

The Bavarian brand introduced a racing car with the prefix Racing. Such a BMW M2 is not allowed on public roads and differs technically: instead of a 3.0-liter S58 engine, a “turbochtotist” is installed with a b48 with a volume of 2.0 liters. The “extra” options are deleted, the security frame was welded, but the equipped mass is reduced by almost half a ton to 1498 kilograms. Price – from 98 thousand euros, deliveries will begin at the end of the year.

Even without the “turbocharger”, the BMW M2 Racing is quite powerful: the engine is designed for 313 horsepower and 420 nm of torque. The exhaust is configured so that the loss of two cylinders does not affect the sound. The cooling system remains from the 3.0-liter engine, so the radiator grilled was closed by almost a continuous plug. Another nuance is a more practical rear bumper, resistant to contacts.

Of the comfort options, only air conditioning remained, although there is also an IDRive multimediasist. The regular chairs gave way to Sabelt buckets with a carbon base, door cards with handles are removed for the sidelines. Adjustable racks and racing pads are installed from the plant, an aerodynamic body kit is optimized. However, the racing BMW M2 is equipped with the same 8-speed ZF automatic machine.

Usually on racing machines they experience solutions for serial models, but it seems not the case. BMW recognized the non-alternativeness of six- and eight-cylinder engines and does not plan to transfer Emki into 2.0-liter units. But the rear -wheel drive and “mechanics” will soon remain in the past: after restyling M2, M3 and M4 will become all -wheel drive and with a non -alternative automatic.
