BYD executive vice president Li Ke said the Chinese auto giant is open to acquiring a major automaker, although negotiations have not yet reached the point. She stressed that competitors from the US, Europe and Japan face structural challenges: they have to maintain a parallel portfolio of fuel and electric models.
BYD’s focus on pure electric and hybrid vehicles allows the company to offer cutting-edge “battery” products, and the acquisition of a “traditional” automaker will allow it to expand the range with fuel models.
Similar precedents exist: Geely acquired Volvo, and Stellantis and Ford were looking for technology partners willing to provide electric cars.
At the same time, Li Ke emphasized that BYD will strictly evaluate the proposed assets to select the one that will strengthen global competitiveness.
By the way, at the end of last year, the Chinese giant confidently knocked Ford out of the top 6 world auto leaders. And this is a clear example of Chinese expansion.
Belgee has partially declassified the X50+ crossover for the Russian market. Russian car factories had to replace German anticorrosive with domestic ones. Instead of Geely: Proton cars can be produced in Kazakhstan
Meanwhile, European truck makers are spooked by Chinese competitors. Reuters has identified more than half a dozen companies planning to start selling heavy trucks in the European market by the end of 2026.
