Car sales in Russia fell by 11% in January

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, 91.4 thousand new cars of all types were sold in our country during the month. In January 2025, more than 102 thousand cars were sold. Sales of heavy trucks fell the most at the beginning of the year – by 39%. In the passenger segment there is a decline of 7%.

During the month, 81.9 thousand new passenger cars (under three years old) were sold in Russia. Sales of light commercial vehicles amounted to 5.6 thousand units, which is 28% less than in January 2025. The heavy truck segment sank even further: in the first month of the new year, only 3.2 thousand vehicles were sold, which is 39% less than a year earlier.

A strong decline in sales is also observed in the bus segment, of which 597 units were sold in a month – a quarter less than a year earlier.

At the same time, the share of domestically produced equipment in the Russian market has increased. As the Ministry of Industry and Trade emphasized, it increased by 8 percentage points and reached 60%. During the month, 54 thousand domestic cars were sold in Russia.
