Changan showed for the first time the new Avatr brand sedan

The young Avatr brand, created six years ago by Changan, Huawei and CATL, is preparing to expand its model range. Changan has published images of the new product – a mid-size sedan, currently known under the code name E16. According to the Chinese portal Autohome, it will be a four-door version of the Avatr 07 crossover and will receive the index 08. The premiere in China is expected before the end of this year.

The teaser shows that the car has a streamlined fastback body with a sloping roof flowing into the trunk lid, and lighting technology in the spirit of the Avatr 07. Pictures from test tests shed light on the equipment: a lidar is installed on the roof, indicating the presence of autonomous vehicle control systems.

Also, in one of the prototypes, traditional rear-view mirrors are replaced with miniature cameras, the image from which is usually displayed on the side displays in the cabin. Perhaps the top version will get digital mirrors.

The E16/08 is based on the modular CHN platform (from the first letters Changan, Huawei and Ningde era – the Chinese name for CATL), on which other Avatr are built. Most likely, the 07 crossover will share the “filling” with it.

In the electric version, it is driven by one or two motors with 343 and 256 horsepower and an 82-kilowatt-hour battery, which allows it to travel up to 650 kilometers without recharging. The hybrid “Seven” with a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine generator travels on electricity only 245 kilometers, but the full range exceeds 1.1 thousand kilometers.

Avatr will be officially sold in Russia: the first model has already been certified, and the start of sales is expected in January-February 2025. A fleet of cars for consumer test drives is now being formed.
