Drifting legend Keiichi Tsuchiya helped create a special version of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N

The package of improvements is designed to improve the handling, responsiveness and aerodynamics of the electric car, and so far the car has been announced only for Japan and South Korea. The drift hatchback differs from the regular Ioniq 5 N by its lowered suspension, lightweight wheels and brake mechanisms with monoblock calipers.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N hatchback has acquired a special version, created in collaboration with the “king of drift” Keiichi Tsuchiya. The letters DK in its name stand for Drift King. The electric car differs from the standard Ionic by a modified chassis and a new aerodynamic body kit, borrowed from the NPX1 concept from last year’s Tokyo Motor Show. This Ioniq 5 N handles better – in fact, this was the main idea – although it has a standard power plant.

The hatchback is equipped with a twin-engine system producing 609 horsepower with the possibility of a short-term increase to 650 horsepower. Battery capacity is 84 kilowatt-hours. A special feature of the electric car is a set of electronic add-ons that simulate the operation of the gearbox and clutch, and also transmit the sound of the operating internal combustion engine into the cabin and outside.

With the assistance of Keiichi Tsuchiya, Hyundai developed a set of components to improve the car’s performance on the track. It included, for example, forged 21-inch wheels. They are 10.6 kilograms lighter than the standard set, plus they have special notches on the rim that do not allow the tire to slip under high longitudinal and lateral loads.

The standard brakes in the Ioniq 5 N DK have been replaced with reinforced ones with six-piston calipers made of duralumin and the working surface of the pads increased by 54%. The suspension uses shortened H&R springs (-15 mm). New aerodynamic components are made from carbon fiber and include the front splitter, rear spoiler and diffuser. Together they provide an additional 93 kilograms of pressure at 140 kilometers per hour.

Sales of the Ioniq 5 N from Keiichi Tsuchiya will begin this year, but so far the electric car has been announced only for Japan and South Korea. Prices and details are promised to be revealed later.
