Electric Acura ZDX was discontinued only a year after the start of sales

The Acura’s automobile brand decided to close the production of its first electrical alternate ZDX. This happens only 16 months after the first buyers received their cars. Moreover, at the beginning of this September, the manufacturer officially announced plans to update the electric car with the beginning of the next model year.

In his statement, the manufacturer explained that the adjustment of the lineup is necessary to comply with the current situation in the market and requests of customers, as well as to achieve long -term strategic goals of Acura.

An explanation for this step can be found in sales data. In early September, the American division Honda and Acura reported record indicators for its electrified cars – in August the total volume of their sales reached 44,465 cars. However, the contribution of the ZDX model to this success was minimal – only 520 copies.

For comparison, built on the same Honda Prologue platform, it was dispersed by a circulation of more than 9,300 units, which was the best result for this model. The analyst explains this record by the future cancellation of state subsidies for the purchase of electric vehicles in the United States.

Despite the closure of the ZDX project, Acura does not intend to abandon the electrification course. The company reported the active development of new hybrid models. In the second half of 2026, the production of another battery crossover – RSX, the prototype of which was presented in the summer of 2024, should start.
