The new car company was created by the German brand Audi and the Chinese corporation SAIC Motor specifically for the Chinese market. The first car was the E5 Sportback, and the E7X crossover recently premiered.
Sales of the E5 Sportback began in August 2025. The initial price tag seemed attractive: from 235.9 thousand to 319.9 thousand yuan (about $34.3 thousand – $46.6 thousand). However, buyers did not appreciate the efforts.
At the end of January 2026, only 420 cars were sold, and the total circulation since the launch barely reached the mark of 7 thousand cars. This is catastrophically low for the Chinese market.
As CarNewsChina reports, the Volkswagen concern plans to establish a European assembly of electric car models of the new AUDI brand (the name is written in strictly capital letters).
This decision will help recoup the funds invested in the project, as well as load factories in Europe, which are currently suffering from a lack of orders, with new machines.
In addition to AUDI, Europeans will be offered other cars originally developed for the Chinese market. Among them is the large hybrid crossover Volkswagen ID. Era 9X.
