This season of the World Car of the Year competition started in the fall of 2024, in January the short lines were published, and now it became known which cars went to the final. BMW X3, Hyundai Inster/Casper Electric and Kia EV3 will compete for the victory in the main nomination. It is noteworthy that last year the same brands – BMW, Hyundai and Kia, but with other models, entered the final. Then the KIA EV9 was recognized as a car, and in two nominations at once – the main and “electric car of the year”.
Models applying for the title of “World Car of the Year” this season must meet certain requirements. Firstly, they should be officially represented in at least two continents and in two main markets (China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America or the USA). Secondly, the annual volume of their production should be at least 10 thousand copies. Thirdly, they should cost below the level of luxury cars.

There are related nominations, it is a “city car”, “premium car”, “sports car of the year”, “electric car of the year” and “best design”, and in these categories the annual circulation of cars can be less than 10 thousand. The winners are chosen by an expert jury, which includes about a hundred automobile journalists from 30 countries, including Russia.
Troika of finalists in additional categories look as follows. BYD Seagull / Dolphin Mini, Hyundai Inster / Casper Electric and Mini Cooper Electric will fight for the title of “City Car of the Year” – Cooper and Suzuki Swift were released from the list. The electric car of the year can be Hyundai Inster / Casper Electric, Kia EV3 or Porsche Macan Electric, but Volkswagen ID. Buzz and Volvo EX90 did not reach the final.
In the premium segment in the top three, two Porsche models are at once, these are Macan and Panamera, as well as Volvo EX90, they dropped out Lexus GX and Volkswagen ID. Buzz. The category of “sports car of the year” presents the BMW M5, Porsche 911 Carrera GTS and Taycan Turbo GT (the Bentley Continental GT Speed and Ford Mustang did not go to the final).
