The recall campaign concerns the Crosstrek and Forester hybrid crossovers. Some owners have complained about fuel leaks. A temporary but extremely inconvenient recommendation for owners: keep cars outside, away from buildings, and do not fill the tank more than halfway.
The problem lies in the fuel neck. If the seal between the housing and the filler neck gasket is not tight enough, fuel may leak out.
The risk arises if the tank is almost full and the car is parked in conditions where the ambient temperature rises. The fuel expands, pressure in the tank increases, and gasoline may begin to leak through weak seals.
Subaru emphasizes that despite 33 complaints received, no fires or injuries were reported due to this malfunction. However, the company is being proactive because a fuel leak near an ignition source could theoretically lead to a fire.
In total, almost 70 thousand cars are subject to recall. This is 17.4 thousand units of the 2026 model year Crosstrek Hybrid and 51.7 thousand units of the 2025 model year Forester Hybrid.
