Ford has adapted its largest SUV for police service

A giant car for law enforcement agencies debuted in the United States; The basis was the fifth generation Expedition. The customer can opt for the regular 5.3-meter version or pay extra for the 5.6-meter Max version. In any case, the SSV modification will be distinguished by stamped wheels, a bumper with a ram bumper, diode special signals and headlight finders.

Police cars we don’t want on our tails

By default, the police SUV has high-profile tires, power running boards, and the central tunnel now has communications equipment and a control panel for additional functions. There is also the ability to drive without lights, which is not available to regular Fords. There are no luxury options: the chairs are fabric, and the floor has a wear-resistant coating.

The rest of the equipment is standard. For police service, only all-wheel drive gasoline Ford Expeditions with a V6 turbo engine (3.5 liters, 406 horsepower, 651 Nm) and a 10-speed automatic are converted. The SUV is capable of towing a trailer with a gross weight of 4.1 to 4.4 tons. Depending on the length of the wheelbase, the interior can be two- or three-row.

US police departments can choose between five SSV models: there are electric F-150 Lightning pickups and Mustang Mach-E crossovers, gas-powered F-150s, and the bulk of their purchases are made up of Explorer-based Police Interceptor Utility crossovers. Also, law enforcement agencies can choose products from Dodge, Jeep and RAM, but General Motors is gradually refocusing on supplies for the secret service.
