It will be powered by an EcoBoost turbo-four and receive a suite of upgrades from American pro drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr. For example, the Mustang RTR will get Brembo brakes, electronic drift steering and components from Mustang Dark Horse.
The current seventh generation Ford Mustang will have another “charged” version. Moreover, unlike the Mustang GT with the Performance package, the Mustang Dark Horse and the infernal Mustang GTD, it will have a 2.3 EcoBoost turbo-four under the hood. The fastback was created in partnership with American pro-drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr. and traditionally has the RTR prefix – from RTR Vehicles. The premiere will take place as part of this year’s Detroit Auto Show, although Gittin Jr. presented its predecessor in the form of the Mustang RTR Spec 2 back in 2023.

How much different the factory Mustang RTR will be from the RTR Spec 2 remains to be seen. For the fastback, Brembo brakes, an electronic drift handbrake, improved aerodynamics and a certain set of components that will be shared by Mustang Dark Horse are announced. According to Gittin Jr., the sports car is aimed at enthusiasts. This will be the most exciting turbo Mustang ever, capable of drifting, drag racing, autocrossing and leisurely back-road driving.
At the Detroit Auto Show, the new Mustang RTR will sit alongside the Mustang GTD Spirit of America. The special edition compressor coupe celebrates the American spirit of ingenuity and courage and recalls the likes of Craig Breedlove, the first person in history to reach speeds of 500 and 600 mph (805 and 966 km/h, respectively). Breedlove set records on Spirit of America cars equipped with turbojet engines.
