According to the LenTV 24 TV channel, the Governor of the Leningrad Region, Alexander Drozdenko, at a press conference dedicated to the results of 2024, announced that the production of commercial vehicles would resume in the region. Negotiations on the production of cars are ongoing with several foreign partners, and “this project will be implemented.”
“Evening St. Petersburg” clarifies that there was no talk about launching the production of passenger cars; the parties discussed the possibility of assembling small commercial vehicles of different classes. At the same time, Drozdenko called the situation with the production of auto parts in the Leningrad region “complex”: Yura Corporation Rus in Ivangorod and Faurecia in Luga operate in very small volumes or have suspended production.
Xcite reported modest sales results The former Toyota plant in St. Petersburg continues to earn millions The production plan for the former Volkswagen plant in Kaluga has been revealed
As for passenger cars, several St. Petersburg enterprises operate: the former Nissan plant produces crossovers of the Xcite brand, and the former Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus produces a line of cars under the Solaris brand (in the past these were Hyundai and Kia models). There is also a former Toyota plant in St. Petersburg – it is located in Shushary and is designed to produce 100 thousand cars per year. In the spring of 2023, Toyota’s Russian assets, including the production site in Shushary, were sold to FSUE NAMI, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the deal did not include a buyback option. The plant has been idle since mid-2022.
Another Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg, which the company once acquired from General Motors, is also idle. A few days earlier, information appeared that Chinese crossovers Jaecoo J7 would be produced there.
