Fresh lists 5 Chinese cars that rust faster than others

According to a study by a dealer holding, the main outsiders in terms of body corrosion resistance among cars from China were the GAC GS4, Jetta VS7 crossovers and a number of other models. The operating director of the Fresh automotive marketplace, Evgeny Zhitnukhin, told Motor magazine about this.

“GAC GS4 showed the worst results in corrosion protection – a complete absence of zinc coating on the body, which makes it most vulnerable to rust,” said Zhitnukhin. “Despite a number of galvanized parts on the Jetta VS7, a significant part of the body was left without special protection.”

According to him, owners of both models are recommended to carry out regular anti-corrosion treatment. The lack of full coverage reduces overall resistance to environmental influences, the source added.

Among other brands, low rust resistance is typical for cars of the Lixiang, Lifan and Dongfeng brands. Most cars of the listed brands do not receive a full zinc coating.

Some cars of Chinese origin suffer from rapid paint wear, which accelerates the corrosion process, while for others, certain body elements – such as the underbody and wheel arches – are often left without sufficient protection, the expert said.

At the same time, the most popular Chinese manufacturers continue to improve their technologies, and new models Tank, Great Wall, Haval, Geely, FAW, Omoda, Changan, Exeed and Chery show an improvement in the quality of anti-corrosion treatment, the expert noted.

It is important to remember that the condition of the paintwork and anti-corrosion treatment significantly affects the durability of the car and its market value.

Modern technologies allow manufacturers to adapt to the Russian climate, but the need for additional processing remains relevant for many Chinese brands, Zhitnukhin warned.
