GAC recalls GS8 due to dangerous defect

Chinese automaker GAC has announced a major recall of its 2022 GS8 crossovers due to a critical software defect that could cause the speedometer to disappear from the dashboard. The issue affects vehicles manufactured between September 2021 and August 2023. The company plans to fix the problem using remote software updates, which will allow owners to avoid a visit to the service center.

The identified software defect poses a serious threat to traffic safety, since the driver under certain conditions may be left without information about the current speed of the vehicle. According to the manufacturer, the problem is systemic and requires prompt intervention to prevent potentially dangerous situations on the road.

The car brands with the largest number of recalls in 2024 are listed. Audi has confirmed the recall of 113 thousand cars: 12 models are at risk. BMW is recalling the new 5- and 7-Series due to a defective steering shaft.

To resolve the issue, GAC will utilize state-of-the-art Over-the-Air (OTA) remote update technology, which will allow owners to obtain a corrected version of the software without having to visit a dealership. The company has already started sending out notifications to all owners of affected vehicles with detailed instructions on how to update.

Earlier it became known that Kia announced a recall of 1,385 2023 Sorento crossovers due to a potential fire risk. The cause was a manufacturing defect in the fuel system, which could lead to a fire in the event of a severe frontal collision. The recall campaign affects cars produced from April to October of this year.
