Tire company Goodyear has improved its emergency braking system. To do this, it was combined with “smart” SightLine sensors, which can warn about the risk of aquaplaning, ice on the road and other dangers. Integration with on-board electronics made it possible to use more data and minimize the consequences of accidents.
Goodyear’s SightLine technology package provides a wealth of tire and road data, and its integration with ABS and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) can significantly improve safety.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company In China, they created a battery for electric cars with ultra-fast charging function
SightLine sensors and software will warn you about the risk of aquaplaning, icy conditions, tread wear, and even exceeding the permissible load. In conjunction with AEB, this provides an undeniable advantage, since the system begins to operate earlier, minimizing the consequences of accidents.
This is what recent road tests have proven. With integrated SightLine, the AEB system can operate effectively at speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour, even on wet roads, whereas it is usually configured for surfaces with a high coefficient of friction, such as dry asphalt. In general, smart tires could have a lot of other applications, and Goodyear, of course, is not alone in this area.
Ford’s advanced pressure sensor and Pirelli Cyber Tire system have similar functionality to SightLine. In the second case, we are talking about a special sensor that “reads” the road and uploads information about the contact patch and tire angle, air temperature, vertical load and lateral acceleration values into the on-board network. True, for now it is still exotic, available to buyers of cars like the Pagani Utopia Roadster and McLaren Artura.
