Ikon Tires listed three reasons for rapid tire wear

Tires wear out quickly if you do not monitor their pressure, ignore faults in the suspension and brakes, and also turn a blind eye to damaged rims and poor tire fitting. Alexander Parkhomchuk, head of the group for technical customer support, testing and certification at Ikon Tires, told Motor magazine about this.

“The speed and uniformity of tire wear depend on pressure. Overinflated tires wear out in the center of the tread, and with low pressure, the load is transferred to the shoulder areas. Check your blood pressure regularly, especially before long trips. The optimal values are indicated in the owner’s manual, on the gas filler flap or on the driver’s door pillar. When the car is heavily loaded, the pressure needs to be increased,” Parkhomchuk said.

Another reason for premature tire wear, according to the expert, is faulty suspension and braking systems. Due to constant impacts, levers, shock absorbers, and struts can become deformed. This disrupts the suspension geometry and leads to uneven distribution of load on the tires. Incorrect camber and toe angles will also shorten the life of the tire set.

The rate of wear is also affected by the condition of the brake system. The malfunction leads to uneven braking: one wheel slows down more than the other, and the tire on it wears out faster, the specialist noted.

The third reason is damaged wheels and poor tire fitting. New tires will quickly fail if installed on damaged rims or mounted incorrectly. Deformations, cracks, and corrosion on the rims impair the fit of the tire. Even microscopic clearances cause imbalance, runout and accelerated wear. Improper seating of the tire on the rim leads to balance problems and premature aging. Regular wheel inspection will help extend the life of tires, Parkhomchuk concluded.

Earlier, Russians were told about the main dangers of driving on winter tires in warm weather.
