In China, a Nio EC6 was filmed split into pieces after an accident

On December 1, in a suburb of Shanghai, a Nio EC6 electric crossover crashed into a concrete fence at high speed. The impact was so strong that the rear of the car was completely separated from the front. CarNewsChina reports this.

“The vehicle’s on-board system reported a collision and the company was notified. Two passengers were taken to hospital but did not receive life-threatening injuries. Local media also reported claims by Nio employees that they discouraged bystanders from filming or reporting the collision.

At the time of the accident, the driver assistance system did not work, and the company said that the doors unlocked after the impact and the handles extended automatically. They also noted that the battery did not catch fire or overheat. The causes of the accident are being clarified – the official police conclusion and the results of the technical examination have not yet been made public.

Nio EC6 is a mid-size electric coupe-crossover SUV made in China. This version is equipped with dual-motor all-wheel drive and a 100 kWh battery, which provides a range of up to 630 km on the CLTC cycle. These data relate to the performance of the model as a whole and are not related to the accident investigation.

The footage posted online shows that as a result of the accident, the crossover split into two parts. According to reports, the passengers got out of the car on their own. However, no independent assessment of body deformation, seat belt and airbag performance, or load distribution has been carried out. The available data is insufficient to draw conclusions about the design of the car, especially since the impact occurred at an uncharacteristic point.

Earlier, traffic on the Moscow Ring Road was partially blocked after an accident with a truck.
