In China, the demand for Volkswagen electric cars fell into 3.5 times

The first month of 2025, the German brand closed with a result of 171.9 thousand cars sold, but they “make a cash desk” a version with internal combustion engines. Volkswagen electric cars found only 4552 buyers, which is 71% less than the result of 2024 (15,828 units). Thus, the share of “battery” machines fell to 2.6 percent, although the electric car market in the Celestial Empire is growing!

The most successful electric Volkswagen remains ID.3: he found 2623 buyers in China, which is three times less than the results of 2024. On the second line ID.4 x (1020), on its third alter ego ID.4 Crozz (889). Four sales compared to January 2024 decreased by 59-70 percent. New items did not work at all: for example, the ID.7 Vizzion sedan found only nine customers!

They could, but failed: Volkswagen Phaeton 50 years Volkswagen Golf 50 years Volkswagen Passat

Volkswagen dealers offer discounts, but this helps little in a competitive Chinese market. For a German brand, sale 4.5 thousand electric vehicles per month – a catastrophic result, because the bestseller of the segment – Geely Xingyuan – found 28.1 thousand buyers in January. Tesla model y (25.7 thousand units) are comparable and indicators. The successes of Volkswagen are kept on Sagitar, Passat and Lavida gasoline sedans, which are included in the top ten bestsellers of the PRC market.

Chinese experts expressed the opinion that Volkswagen turned out to be a hostage to their values: young buyers of electric cars are not concerned about dynamics, handling, assembly quality and sled comfort. They need “digitalization”, convenient connections of a car and a smartphone, a smart autopilot and quick firmware updates. Volkswagen does not offer any of this on electric cars.
