In Moscow, cars began to be issued license plates with the new region code 997

This happened 4 years after the introduction of the regional code 977, which appeared on the license plates of Muscovites in the summer of 2022. Gazeta.Ru reported on the start of issuing license plates of the 997 series in Moscow: the publication’s correspondent photographed a car with such a license plate in the south of Moscow.

“One of the first cars to receive series 997 numbers was photographed by a Gazeta.Ru correspondent on Andropov Avenue in the south of the city, not far from Kolomenskoye Park. The license plate of the new series is installed on the first generation Mazda 3 sedan,” the publication notes.

Russian license plates with regional codes on a separate field on the right side of the sign began to be issued in our country in 1994. Then Moscow received code 77 – under this serial number the capital is mentioned in the list of federal subjects, which is contained in the Constitution of the Russian Federation.

Then, against the background of the growth of the vehicle fleet and as possible combinations of numbers and letters were exhausted, regional codes 99, 97, 177, 199, 197, 777, 799, 797 and 977 were introduced in Moscow. Plates with code 977 were put into circulation in the summer of 2022.
