It is calculated how many new cars the Russians bought in six months

From January to June 2025, 607.5 thousand units of transport were sold in the country, which is 28 percent less than a year earlier, the Ministry of Industry and Trade reports. Only cars were bought 526.7 thousand pieces, the fall was 26 percent. June separately also showed a weak result-89.6 thousand cars, minus 27 percent by June 2024 and minus one percent by May 2025.

For six months, new cars of domestic production for six months were sold 333.3 thousand pieces (-11 percent compared to the same period of 2024). Demand for electric cars collapsed more than doubled – by 57 percent up to 4.8 thousand units, but among them there were more manufactured in Russia (23 percent versus 18).

LCV sales in the first half of the year dropped by 19 percent to 48.8 thousand cars, trucks – 54 percent to 27 thousand, buses – 54 percent to 4.9 thousand.

In the Ministry of Industry and Trade, it is noted that the focus of buyers shifts from foreign cars to domestic cars. Demand for them also falls, but slower: in June, 44.7 thousand imported cars were sold (-45 percent by June 2024) and 56.2 thousand produced in Russia (-12.5 percent).

The European Business Association reduced the sales forecast for the Russian car market for 2025 from 1.4 million to 1.25 million units. Experts noted that the market would not be able to reach the level of 2024 even in 2026. And to the dopandemic indicators – 2.25 million cars per year – it will come from only the end of the decade.
