Kia prepares a new gasoline turbo engine with a volume of 2.5 liters

At the presentation for investors, the leadership of the Korean company confirmed the development of the “turbocharging”, which will become the development of the 2.5T-GDI engine. The gasoline engine will be 12% more powerful than the current version, the thermal coefficient of useful action will increase by 5%. The new unit will be used as part of the KIA gasoline-electrical installations, including consistent hybrids.

The actual 2.5T-GDI engine in the most powerful version gives out 294 horsepower and 422 nm of torque. It can be expected that the new unit will develop about 330 horsepower. However, more important for hybrids is more important: thanks to an improved connection between the electric motor and the ICE, the transition from one power source to another will be seamless, and acceleration will become more effective.

There is little information about the use of a new turbo engine as a gas generator for consistent hybrids. Probably, KIA is going to release an analogue of Lixiang with the ICE, which is not connected with the wheels directly. There is no information about the deadlines for the debut of the promising unit. But new power plants can help achieve targets of KIA and increase annual sales to 4.19 million pieces by 2030.

In the record 2024, KIA sold 3.1 million copies, that is, for six years, Korean brand intends to grow by at least six percent annually. To achieve an ambitious task over five years, 15 new electric vehicles and ten hybrids will be released. The KIA forecast for 2030 implies that non -enybride models will be only 44% of sales.
