Mayon and Barnato: How Bentley will call a reduced version of Bentayga

In the European Intellectual Property Office, two applications for registration of trademarks submitted by Bentley were discovered. One of them, Barnato, is associated with the history of the British manufacturer, and so far one can only guess about the value of the second. It is expected that one of the names will go to the crossover less than Bentayga with a fully electric power plant.

Barnato probably refers to the name of Wulf Barnato, a British financier, a millionaire and an avid racer who traveled to Bentley in the 20s of the last century and won three times in “24 hours of Le Man”. He also invested a lot in the brand, which helped her survive difficult times and develop a new generation of cars.

With Mayon, not everything is so unambiguous: perhaps this is the name of the volcano mayon over the albari bay in the Philippines. The choice of Bentley is understandable if you recall that Bentayga is named after the Roque Bentayga rocky formation in the Canary Islands.

At the same time, Bentley is preparing a “charged” version of Bentayga without a hybrid. The option with a gasoline V8 with a capacity of up to 600 horsepower without an electric “appendage” will appear in 2025.
