Mini changed her mind about producing electric cars in the UK

BMW Mark revised plans for the production of Cooper and Aceman crossover, Reuters writes. They were going to put them on the conveyor of the factory in Londuford, in which Mini invested considerable funds. However, the market made its adjustments: due to weak demand, the start of production of electric cars is postponed indefinitely.

Mini noted that the reason for this decision was “the uncertainty that the industry has encountered.” Sales of electric cars were lower than predicted in the company.

At the same time, more than 600 million pounds (more than 66 billion rubles) have already been invested in the expansion of the British enterprise. The production of “batteries” Cooper and Aceman was supposed to start next year, and at the beginning of the next decade, Mini planned to become a fully electric brand.

Mini Cooper received an “Oxford” performance of Hyundai will stop the IonIQ 5 in Korea. They do not want to buy him in China 3.5 times the demand for Volkswagen electric cars has collapsed

Given the market circumstances, they decided to revise the “landscaping” strategy. Even the latest Mini electric cars have to be sold with large discounts and pause production to avoid overstocking. And this despite the fact that the line was updated recently.

Weak sales of electric cars forced Mini to abandon the project of an electric convertible. The company decided not to spend resources on a niche model against the background of problems with the profitability of production of entry -level electric vehicles.
