Mitsubishi Motors, against the backdrop of new tariffs introduced by Donald Trump, paused the shipment of cars with American dealers. The entire Mitsubishi line in the USA is imported cars, and each of them is now taxed by an additional 25 percent tariff. Thus, the Japanese company joins other auto giants whose thousands are stuck in American ports.
Mitsubishi hopes that the tariff policy will be able to soften: the cars will remain in the ports until the government announces progress in this direction, Mitsubishi said. Now in the North American warehouses of the company there are enough cars to satisfy demand, the Japanese assured. According to analysts, they will be enough for about 79 days.
Mitsubishi is far from the first car manufacturer who announced the freezing of export in the United States due to grown duties. Aston Martin, Audi, Lotus and Jaguar Land Rover went to similar measures. In addition, Nissan stopped receiving orders in the USA on QX50 and QX55 of the Mexican assembly, and Volvo stops selling the S90 sedan.
