“Motor” in races: Start in the Nizhny!

There is no worse. This expression came to mind when, in the second bend of the Igor Drive highway near St. Petersburg, Yegor Sanin and Pavel Kalmanovich-the two racers of the Innostage AG Team team and flew into the gravel. And the point is not only that the teammates, to put it mildly, are not recommended to take each other from the highway. Egor and Pavel at that moment were in the second and third positions – and the finish in the first three would guarantee the “our” team to preserve leadership in the Russian championship. In fact, Sanin came down, Kalmanovich rolled back to the last place – and as a result, the Volga team had to leave the first line of the standings …

This situation was especially notable for the fact that, in the course of the second, St. Petersburg stage of the Russian championship in the top -end SMP Tcr Russia, two Innostage AG Team racers collided for the second time. A day earlier, in the first weekend race, Yegor and Pavel were already flushed by the sides of their Audi RS3 and Hyundai I30 N-but then this did not prevent the pilots from ending the arrival in good 4th and 5th places. And the most interesting thing – even after the Sunday clash in the boxes of the team, there was no wringing of hands, conversations in increased tones and other manifestations of emotions.

“The season has just begun, and it’s too early to bet on any one racer,” explains Dmitry Dudin, the head of the team, “therefore, in our opinion, there was nothing wrong with the struggle of Yegor and Paul on Saturday. Yes, it came to contact, but both cars remained intact, this episode did not lead to a loss of positions-therefore, there was no need to hold some special meeting on this subject. As for the collision on Sunday, his reason was Yegor’s mistake – he was not careful enough on the dirty part of the highway, where there was no way to slow down as effectively as on pure asphalt. Yegor pleaded guilty, asked for forgiveness from Paul and the team, draw conclusions for the future-and therefore again there was no reason to make some kind of sewage. Yes, we have lost valuable glasses, but if you start intra -divorce after one mistake, the championship is definitely not to win.

One way or another, on the eve of the stage in Nizhny Novgorod, which will be held this weekend, Innostage Ag Team takes the second place in the command event. In the personal best of the pilots of the team, is Yegor Sanin-a racer from Ulyanovsk now in 3th position with a lag behind a leader of 14 points. And since the pilot can theoretically score as many as 67 points in one stage, it is too early to panic, to put it mildly. It is better to follow the performances of the “our” team with the help of direct broadcasts (you can watch here: on Saturday – at 11:25, on Sunday – at 15:40) or arriving directly on the track (here there is all the information necessary for fans).

In books for novice drivers, it will certainly be written that all four tires of the car should be the same. And those who are inclined to obey the instructions could greatly surprise the walk along the starting direct autodrome of Igor Drive before the Saturday race. Several machines at once on the front axle were put sliks, and rain tires on the back.

The reason was the track dried after the rain. The riders put the sliks forward in the calculation that the perfect trajectory will quickly become dry – and then with sliks on the front axle the machine will accelerate much faster than on rain tires. In the meantime, the route remained wet, the tires with a tread on the rear axle should insure the pilots when passing turns. But this decision might not work if the track had dried more slowly than expected, or if the rain had resumed. Therefore, part of the riders chose to start starting on four rain tires.

All three Innostage AG Team pilots preferred the option with sliks in front – and did not lose. As a result, this decision turned out to be winning: the best of the riders who started on four rain tires finished only in 6th place. But since this could not be guaranteed before the start, the question arises – why did not the team share the tactics? Some of the competitors put the sliks forward to one of the riders, the other – rain tires. They scored fewer glasses than they could in an ideal version for themselves – but also insured against the situation where all the pilots fail at once. Why did the “our” team acted differently?

“Of course, the idea was to divide the tactics,” says Dmitry Dudin, “but, firstly, the asphalt on Igor Drive is known that it dries very quickly.” Secondly, all three of our racer, having traveled a couple of circles along the way to the starting grill, unanimously and very confidently said that Sliki would be able to earn full very quickly, already on the second or third circle. And when several pilots converge so much in opinion, one cannot but listen to them.

On the shores of the Volga and Oka you need to drink a lot

“It was a hot race,” says the pilots and the audience after the race they liked. Railing on the Nizhny Novgorod Ring highway more than once or twice became hot in every sense of the word. What is it connected with, says Yegor Sanin.

– The year after year is formed so that it is the Nizhny Novgorod stage that becomes the hottest in the championship. With an air temperature of 30 degrees, and often higher. Plus, the track is the most winding in the calendar of the championship, and there are few straight lines, but it is on the straight lines that the car is “blown”, and the temperature in the cabin drops slightly. So, if someone tells how he was almost losing consciousness in the salon from stuffiness-this is probably about racing in the lower.

Since the track is slow and winding, many say that it is difficult to overtake. But we somehow proved the opposite in practice. Once, for various reasons, I had to start the race from the 28th place-but I made my way to the leading group, not even in the first place rode for long, and in the end I finished on the catwalk. It was something masterpiece and inspiring the whole team: we counted on a breakthrough, but honestly, we did not expect to climb so high.

True, then I drove in another class – there are more cars there, and the pilots have much more speed. All the same, SMP TCR Russia is a top category where only professionals travel. Therefore, last year we did not put ourselves in a situation where it was often required to overtake. I won the lower qualification, and behind it the first race. Why not repeat this weekend?

Recall that the third stage of the Russian championship in the most prestigious class SMP TCR Russia will be held on the Nizhny Novgorod Ring highway on July 12 and 13. The audience who arrived at the Avtodroy will not only see the Innostage AG Team riders on the highway, but also talk with them, approaching the minimum distance to the racing cars-during a daily walk around the pit lane in the middle of the day.
