New Hyundai Palisade unveiled: nine seats, no diesel, no V6

South Korea has opened applications for the second generation all-terrain vehicle. There were some surprises: Hyundai offered a three-row configuration with a 3+3+3 seating arrangement—this has not been seen outside the minivan segment for a long time! Also, the new Palisade gained an active suspension and a hybrid version with a power reserve of over 1000 kilometers, and lost the diesel and naturally aspirated V6.

First test of the 8-seater Hyundai Palisade

Hyundai Palisade inherited the platform with a transverse engine from its predecessor, but the wheelbase was stretched by seven centimeters (up to 2970 mm), and the overall length became 6.5 centimeters longer (now 5060 mm). In South Korea, the only option available so far is with a four-cylinder 2.5-liter turbo engine.

In the basic version, it develops 281 power and 422 Nm in conjunction with an 8-speed automatic transmission. As part of a self-charging hybrid, it works with a 6-speed automatic transmission with a built-in electric motor and a 300-volt battery with a capacity of 1.65 kilowatt-hours. The peak output of the hybrid is 334 horsepower, and the estimated range is more than 1000 kilometers.

The interior is three-row by default; there can be seven, eight or nine seats. In South Korea, nine-seater cars are classified as buses and can enjoy incentives. The three-seater sofa in front is full: the middle passenger has a headrest and a three-point belt. Optionally, you can order separate seats on the first and second row.

The third row of seats moves longitudinally by seven centimeters, and even the driver can adjust the backrest angle via a 12.3-inch touchscreen. For the first time, an adaptive suspension has appeared on Hyundai crossovers, but there are no air struts: only ordinary springs. Options include a 14-speaker Bose audio system, valet parking, 21-inch wheels, a panoramic roof, ventilated seats and leather trim in four colors.

Hyundai introduced the flagship crossover Ioniq 9

After the generation change, the basic Hyundai Palisade rose in price by 12.5% to 43.83 million won (30.3 thousand dollars). The top version now costs 60.34 million won (41.7 thousand dollars): 10% more than before. In January, the first customers will receive gasoline cars, but hybrids will have to wait until the summer. In mid-2025, the crossover will enter the US market, where it may receive different equipment.
