Several owners of the new 2024 Lexus GX have reported an unusual problem with the vehicle’s exterior: plastic body parts, including mirror caps and pillar trim, are warping and melting when exposed to sunlight, despite normal driving conditions.
According to one GX owner in Arizona, the mirror cap deformed within four days while the vehicle was parked. The dealership, after conducting diagnostics, ruled out a malfunction of the internal heating element of the mirror and refused to replace the part under warranty, suggesting that the damage could have occurred during the installation of the protective film.

Another owner in Charlotte reported more serious damage: In addition to the mirror cap, his car’s roof rack covers, trim pieces above the rear fender, and the gloss black trim on the B-pillar were warped. At the same time, the owner notes that he never had such problems with previous cars.
Previously, hundreds of Honda HR-V owners encountered the problem of the rear window cracking when the heating was turned on in cold weather. Honda confirmed the presence of a manufacturing defect related to the contact of the sealant and the heating element, but delayed the recall campaign until the necessary parts become available in the spring.
